“An apple a day keeps the doctor away”
The adage, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away,” has been found to be more than true. In fact, it has been proven to be both one of nature’s best antioxidants and a friend to anyone who wants healthy hair and skin. Rich in Vitamin A, B, and C it’s skin and hair’s super food right at your fingertips.
Apples, green in particular, are great for toning and reviving tired, stressed skin. Their natural antioxidants work to fight off the free radical damage we’re exposed to every day and are especially healing if you’ve had just a little too much sun! Add wheat germ to the mix and you’ve got a ten minute mask that will give you some exfoliation and leave your skin supple and glowing.
Here’s how we do it at home:
Grate or puree an apple of your choosing so that you have a tablespoon worth of apple. In a small bowl mix with a tablespoon of wheat germ (or as much as you need to get the consistency of a paste). Apply this to a freshly washed face and leave on for ten minutes. Enjoy!
For additional variations try mixing apple with honey to a paste-like consistency and leave on for ten minutes for some extra nutrient-rich hydration. And as always, make sure you follow up with your favorite moisturizer after your at home treatment.
Skin Remedy Tip of the Week:
Skin Remedy Serum
The Skin Remedy Serum is procured from ingredients grown from Justine’s very own garden in Sausalito, CA.
Composed of Rosehip, Lavender, Geranium, Lemon, Verbena, and Chamomile this serum is generally best used on dry skin. Applied at night its anti-septic and anti-inflammatory ingredients will moisturize, soothe, and calm the skin. As an added bonus it’s combination of ingredients provide the relaxing therapies of Lavender and Chamomile to ease you into the oh-so-important good night’s sleep. Follow up with your moisturizer and wake up with truly renewed skin.
Skin Remedy Of The Week:
antioxidant rich calming and soothing mask
Did you all have a great time at Outside Lands Music Festival this weekend?! Is your skin showing it!? If so, here’s a great antioxidant rich calming and soothing mask to get that glow back and help to deliver the nourishment that was lost over the weekend.
1 tablespoon of beet juice
1 tablespoon of ground colloidal oatmeal.
1 teaspoon of honey.
Mix all ingredients together to form a paste similar to the consistency of pancake batter. After fully cleansing the skin apply this mask just before hopping in the shower. Leave on for the remainder of your shower so the steam assists in penetrating the active ingredient further into the skin. Tone and moisturizer as usual.
Beet juice is a very powerful antioxidant that reverses sun damage and gives your skin a deep exfoliation. Colloidal oatmeal helps to calm, soothe and heal damaged skin while the honey acts as a humectant, and has powerful antibacterial ingredients.
Voila! Ready for Monday!
Skin Remedy of the Week:
Hyaluronic is a timeless classic in the world of skincare. Known to be the most powerful humectant every skin type can benefit greatly from this ingredient. Skin health relies heavily on maintaining a proper amount of moisture – and this can be tricky when we’re battling the sun, the environment, and our own specific skin conditions. In order to stay youthful and healthy our skin must have enough moisture.
So what makes the Hyaluronic Serum the right choice? The answer is in the name – Hyaluronic holds 1,000 times its weight in water and will seal in the moisture your skin already has. It plumps out fine lines and provides a deeper level of hydration than over the counter moisturizers. Our Hyaluronic serum feels light and won’t leave you with a greasy finish.
Skin Remedy recommends use in the morning and at night underneath your daily moisturizer for an extra kick of hydration!
Skin Remedy of the Week:
Green Tea Wash
This powerhouse cleanser is packed with skin healing ingredients such as Castille Soap, Goldenseal, Salicylic Acid, and Hyaluronic Acid. These ingredients make it the go-to for skin that seeks gentle yet effective, pH balanced cleansing.
Castile Soap makes this a great wash for all skin types as it balances the oil production in oily skin types providing clean skin without stripping natural oils from our dry skin clients. Goldenseal makes this cleanser unique as it works to provide antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, and astringent properties during your morning and evening cleanse. Coupled with other powerful ingredients it will cleanse the skin from all impurities, fight free radical damage, and work to reduce inflammation, infection, bacteria, all without stripping your skin of necessary moisture.
“After Workout Breakouts Be Gone!”
Here comes the lovely warm weather! The time of year where we break out the tank-tops and skirts. Also, it’s a time where we tend to up our game at the gym, working hard to tone and feel lighter and healthier.
Often times, I get clients who complain of more consistent breakouts when they intensify their workout routine. More often then not, this is due to the fact that they’re not washing their face immediately following their workout. The best thing you can do is always wear clean workout clothes, and immediately remove them, hop in the shower and cleanse your entire face an body. However, sometimes our hectic schedules get in the way and we can’t shower immediately.
Here’s a great QUICK and easy anti-bacterial toner that you can bring with you to class or the gym when you’re unable to hit the showers immediately! This will assist in killing bacteria on the surface of the skin that causes those pesky breakouts!
You will need:
-A small sterile spray bottle
-Apple cider vinegar
-Essential oil (lavender, tea tree and lemon all all great)
-2 cups witch hazel
-1/4 cup of braggs apple cider vinegar
-15 drops essential oil
Mix together and shake before use! Use this before your workout to help remove makeup then again after when you can’t fully wash!
No excuses now! Happy exercising!
